The Major Upcoming Football Championships

From late 2026 to 2034, the hosts, dates and access routes already fixed—and the decisions football still has to make.

Calendar checked against official competition announcements and accurate to 4 August 2026.

Football’s next cycle is already crowded. The Asian Cup, Africa Cup of Nations and Women’s World Cup lead a packed 2027, followed by EURO 2028 and a new generation of global club tournaments. Beyond them, the hosts of the 2030, 2032 and 2034 men’s championships are known even though much of their operational detail is not.

The events are not all part of one system. Most are national-team tournaments, entered by football associations representing countries and territories. The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, FIFA Women’s Club World Cup and FIFA Club World Cup are club competitions, entered through continental club results.

The calendar below makes the most important distinction: a tournament can be officially announced without having yet confirmed dates, venues, qualification rules, or a final field.

What stands out

2027 is the pressure point. AFCON and the FIFA Women’s World Cup overlap across much of June and July. They use different player pools, but will compete for broadcasters, sponsors and global attention.

Access keeps expanding. The men’s World Cup now has 48 teams, the Women’s World Cup follows in 2031, and FIFA is adding larger global club events—most notably the first 19-club FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028.

Multi-country hosting is becoming normal. AFCON 2027 uses three host countries, EURO 2028 uses four host associations, EURO 2032 spans Italy and Türkiye, and the 2030 World Cup reaches six countries across three continents.

For supporters, the practical rule is simple: a confirmed host is not yet a confirmed trip. Travel plans should wait until the official match schedule, stadium assignments, and ticket program are released.

The 2028 Copa América is intentionally absent. As of the cut-off, CONMEBOL had not published a sufficiently complete official host-and-date plan for inclusion in a confirmed calendar.
