The natural beauty of Bulgaria never ceases to amaze foreign tourists, and the Paradise Splash (Raiskoto Praskalo) waterfall is one of the many stunning landmarks the country has to offer. Located at 1700 meters above sea level, in the natural biosphere reserve of Stara Planina – “Jendema”, the Paradise Splash waterfall is magnificent.
The waterfall begins in the “Eternal Spring”, the “snowfield”, under the highest peak of Stara Planina, Botev. The small river “Praskalska” begins its life there, flowing like a clear stream between the stones until it suddenly emerges on the edge of a vast vertical, granite escarpment – “Paradise Rocks”. From here, it makes a big, impressive jump, creating the beautiful Paradise Splash. As the water falls, it splashes into thousands of silver droplets, hitting the bedrock of the granite wall and bouncing off to the side, creating a stunning display of rainbow colors.
The Highest Waterfall in the Balkans
The Paradise Splash waterfall is the highest permanent waterfall in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula, measuring 124,5 meters. It was declared a protected natural site in 1965 and is a popular destination for hiking, rock climbing, ecotourism, paragliding, and all those who love the mountains and fresh mountain air.
The waterfall is situated in the Jendema reserve, which covers the entire watershed of the Byala Reka, the upper course of the Tundzha River, and the gorge of the Tuzha River. It is one of the most inaccessible reserves in Bulgaria, with the fauna of particular value, as the animal world has remained relatively undisturbed due to the reserve’s inaccessibility. The reserve is home to large mammals and birds of prey, including the chamois, golden eagle, and brown bear.
The Raiskoto Praskalo waterfall in Jendema Nature Reserve, Bulgaria, is a breathtaking and must-visit destination for nature lovers. Its height, wild beauty, and stunning display of rainbow colors make it a unique and unforgettable experience. Whether you are a hiker, rock climber, or love the mountains, visiting the Paradise Splash waterfall will highlight any trip to Bulgaria.
