Answers to frequently asked questions regarding speed limits, speeding violations, and related fines in Bulgaria.
Can I lose my driver’s license for speeding?
Yes, you can. You can lose your driver’s license under the following conditions:
- If you drive 31 mph or 50 km/h over the speed limit in built-up areas, you can lose your driver’s license for up to 3 months
- If you are caught speeding repeatedly
- If you drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol
What is the tolerance margin of speed cameras?
The tolerance margin is an unofficial metric. It depends heavily on the speed-measuring equipment used. Generally, older equipment produces less accurate results and has greater tolerance. In most cases, fixed cameras will flash you if you exceed the limit by ~5%. However, speed measuring may be more precise and selective with the new equipment. We do not recommend relying on the tolerance margin when you drive in Bulgaria.
