Use Sozopol as your base, but plan this page as a car-trip guide, not a walking itinerary. The stops below spread north towards Gradina, Chernomorets, Vromos, and Chengene Skele, and south towards Kavacite, Cape Agalina, Alepu / Driver’s Beach, Arkutino, Ropotamo, and Beglik Tash. Some places are simple beach stops; others need short walks, uneven paths, paid parking, seasonal facilities, or boat trips.
In July and August, start early, expect traffic on the Sozopol–Primorsko road, and keep cash or a card ready for parking, beach zones, and attraction tickets. Outside the main summer season, the route is quieter, but some beach bars, family attractions, and boat services may be closed. Without a car, treat the list as separate taxi or transfer trips rather than one smooth public-transport loop.
Going South from Sozopol
Mesarite Archaeological Site
Just a few meters south of Sozopol lies the Mesarite Archaeological Site. This ancient Thracian sanctuary dates back to the 5th century BC. Here, you can explore the remains of a once-thriving settlement, including stone structures and burial mounds. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into Thracian culture and its deep connection to the land.
Kavacite Beach
Kavacite Beach is one of the most popular beaches near Sozopol. Known for its golden sands and clear waters, it’s a perfect spot for sunbathing and swimming. Vromos Beach
Vromos Beach is a quieter alternative to the busier beaches around Sozopol. The beach is known for its clear waters and grey sand, making it an excellent spot for those who prefer a peaceful beach experience. The surrounding area is less developed, offering a more natural setting for sunbathing and swimming. You can take the road to Vromos from Chernomorets, but remember it is poorly maintained. Chengene Skele
Chengene Skele, also known as the Gypsy Wharf, is a unique fishing village north of Sozopol. The village offers a glimpse into traditional Bulgarian fishing life. It’s a picturesque spot, with colorful boats and houses lining the shore. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood at a local eatery or in the charming atmosphere.
While there are more places to explore further from Sozopol, staying close to the old town lets you quickly return and immerse yourself in its vibrant atmosphere.
More Activities Near Sozopol
Just a short hop from Kavacite, you’ll find the Castle in Ravadinovo, also known as “In Love with the Wind”. With its stone towers, lush gardens, and even a small zoo, this fairytale castle feels straight out of a storybook.
A nearby water park is ideal for cooling off on a hot day. With water slides and pools, it’s a hit for families and anyone looking to splash around.
